Unusual Silver Chinese or Japanese Card Cigarette Case FALCON & DRAGON Falconry

A wonderful late 19th- early 20th century Chinese or Japanese card / cigarette case measuring 3.25″ x 2.5″ x about 1/2 thick with a curve shape to fit against one’s chest. Marked as in the last pic. Featuring in high relief a working falcon tethered on his post and a dragon on the reverse. A highly unusual subject by a master silversmith, probably a commission piece for someone into falconry. I’ve had this 18 years and have never seen another case with a falcon. Probably sterling but has not been tested and is not marked sterling. Examined by two antique silver dealers who say its sterling. Japan did not use 925 and the sterling mark until 1928. It tarnishes like sterling. I cannot guarantee this will fit your cigarettes, cards or personal needs. Chinese Export Silver Cigarette Case – Antique 1910. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Chinese Export Silver cigarette / card case; part of our diverse Asian silverware collection. This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigarette case has a plain rectangular rounded form. The anterior cover is embellished with an embossed decorated segmented iconic Chinese dragon design amidst clouds, all on a matte background. The ornamentation to the cover incorporates a shield shaped cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved inscription’W. Lyon Esq, Our best wishes go with you, Hong Kong, 1910′. The posterior cover is ornamented with traditional embossed plum blossom foliate and floral decoration accented with perched birds in addition to a single bird in flight, also on a matte background. The rounded sides of this antique silver cigarette case are plain and unembellished. This silver cigarette case is fitted with a push fit catch, which when released reveals two hinged compartments. This Chinese silver cigarette case retains the original gilded interior. The hallmarks struck to the catch of this impressive case include. Maker’s mark : WN (Wing Nam & Co). Exceptional 1920s Chinese Export Solid Silver Cigarette/Cigar Case. Description – Wonderful good quality Chinese 900 grade solid silver cigarette/cigar box with piano hinged lid and scroll shape thumb piece. The box has a domed lid. With excellent hand engraved bamboo and a hammered finish plus a vacant central rectangular cartouche. The box has cedar wood interior lining, the base has “90” stamped which is 900 purity solid silver, also “silver” stamped and Chinese character marks. Condition – The cigarette/cigar box is in excellent condition, there are no dents, dinks, splits, holes or repairs. There is a very small dint on the front that is hard to see. Both the bamboo and hammered engraving is crisp and clear with no wear what so ever, the hinge is in perfect working order. The interior wood is in fantastic condition with no damage or stains.
