Our Stock # 24308. This is an antique ladies travelling vanity box. A Chinese, elm and brass dressing table case with internal mirror, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1920. Fascinating set of openings and storage, with a distinctive appearance. Displays a desirable, lightly time-worn antique appearance. Chinese elm stocks present deep chestnut hues throughout. Brass accentuates the case with bright golden tones. Held securely with a main central clasp, small bone baton and sliding hook clasp. When released, the lid lifts to reveal the original, foxed mirror plate. Set upon a pivot, the mirror comes to rest, acting as a prop for the lid. Fascia in two wing sections, opening outwards to reveal a suite of six internal drawers. Left-hand drawer dressed with a brass lock escutcheon – key absent. Each swing out wing hosts a drawer and sliding cover to reveal a second storage space. Robust drop handles to each side aid ease of carriage. Have for sale an antique late 19th or early 20th Century sterling silver etched Dragon lidded box by Nanking Chinese Export. The box measures 4 3/8″ length, 3 1/8″ wide and 2 height. It is marked Nanking and other Chinese marks. It has been 100% tested for Sterling Silver or even higher silver content. No dings or dents. No damage or repair. Engraved OK in fancy letters in the middle of the lid. Lid closes nicely and securely. Gilt interior with some tarnish. It has a Dragon etched all the way around it and also on the lid. Chinese Silver Carnelian Needle Case with Daoist Figure Pendant 19th Century

A hand worked low grade silver canister for holding sewing or darning needles. The case is pierced and has fish and lobster motifs. There are two carnelian beads; one of which is used to open the case. The other bead tops a pendant of Daoist figure that hangs off a hook used to attach the case to a chatelaine. The figure is gilded in gold, although much of the gilding has worn off. The case and figure have small dangling pieces of stamped metal formed to resemble blossoms. The chains and cylinder move in and out. There are no marks or labels. The needle case was not intended for export. Needle case – 2 3/8″ (5.9 cm) long x 7/8″ (2.2 cm) wide. Pendant 2 1/8 (5.4 cm) long. 10 (25.4 cm) long overall. Weighs 1.4 oz (40 g). There are no breaks, dents, or cracks. The metal has oxidized and is dark, except on raised areas, such as the figure’s nose, where it has rubbed against cloth. The figure has remnants of gold gilding, especially on the back. The large bead has some wear at the top where it attaches. A work of art and a utilitarian object. Much work went into the manufacture of this needle case. This piece is great for a collection or a dangly bit from a piece of furniture. We just ask that you notify us before returning and obtain our authorization. This will ensure quick processing.

Antique Chinese Cast Silver Pictorial Card Case with Crane, River & Cartouche

Fine Antiques & Jewellery. Antique Chinese Silver Card Case. A late 19th or early 20th century silver card case. It is cast and chased with a riverbank scene with crane and rural building to one side, with the other side having a deer in a landscape and a vacant shield cartouche. There are no makers marks but this is quite common for period Chinese examples. It tests as quite a high grade of silver but a little below the Sterling standard. The case itself is quite slim and made for smaller cards, and the lid is hinged. Due to it being cast it is quite heavy for it’s size and it feels good in the hand. Good order, wear is very minor. There is a small indent to the base flat running across and there is slight movement in the hinge which is typical for it’s age. Height: 8.2 cm (3 1/8 inch). Width: 4.8 cm (1 7/8 inch).
