Chinese Export Silver Cigarette Box – Antique Circa 1900. A fine and impressive antique Chinese Export Silver cigarette box; an addition to our diverse silver box collection. This fine antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigarette box has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. The surface of the body of the box is plain with an applied moulded border to the rim. The subtly domed hinged cover of the box is ornamented with the contemporary engraved monograph initials CBK in addition to a moulded border to the rim. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this impressive box include. Maker’s mark: WH (Wang Hing & Company). Silver quality/purity mark: 90 (900/1000). The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the interior to provide strength, due to a poor gauge of silver; a sign of quality when examples are unlined and of solid silver. This antique cigarette box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition. The engraved initials have wear in keeping with age. Adorned with hand carved jade elephant feet, and jade wing butterfly from the craftsmen at Bensabott, Chicago, c1920s. A unique, one of a kind example of Chinese export silver, embellished with Art Deco hand carved jade. The jade wing butterfly to front has never been monogrammed. This rare Chinese export silver with hand carved jade accents is 6 1/4 by 3 1/4 inches. And weighs 18 standard ounces, less the jade, and partial liner. This magnificent antique Chinese export silver (CES) box has a rectangular form. The lower portion of this antique Chinese silver box is embellished with a broad band of pierced bamboo stalk and foliate decoration, below a chased undulating plum blossom decorated border. The box is fitted with a hinged cover further embellished with pierced and chased decoration identical to that of the body. The upper plateau of the cover is embellished with an impressive pierced decorated panel displaying segmented iconic Chinese dragon designs amidst clouds, incorporating a central vacant shield shaped cartouche. The underside of the box is plain and unembellished. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this fine box include. Maker’s mark: WH (Wang Hing & Co).
