Stunning Rare Fine Quality Edwardian Chinese Carved Ladies Cigarette Holder
FINE QUALITY STUNNING RARE EDWARDIAN CHINESE CARVED LADIES CIGARETTE HOLDER. This is a very Beautiful Rare Edwardian Chinese Carved Ladies Cigarette Holder, i would estimate a date of circa 1910 making this holder over 100 years old. This rare cigarette holder is carved to half of the body with the most intricate detailing of Roses other flowers and foliage, its breath taking, the other half of the holder has a smooth finish giving it a timeless elegance of the Edwardian period, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a very wealthy Edwardian lady many years ago when times were so very different, this is 6 inches in length so would have been used at dinner parties, you can just picture the elegance of the time back in the Edwardian period, if this could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. The condition is nice with no actual damage to the carving. The cigarette holder began it’s prominence all the way back in the later 1700’s, as a way for leftover tobacco to be used. The tobacco would be wrapped into paper and would connect to a device to create this cigarette of discarded tobacco pieces. As with evening gloves, ladies’ cigarette holders are measured by four traditional formal standard lengths. Opera length, usually 16 to 20 inches/40 to 50 cm. Theatre length, 10 to 14 inches/25 to 35 cm. Dinner length, 4 to 6 inches/10 to 15 cm. Cocktail length, which includes shorter holders. It is lovely condition.
