This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) canister / box has a hexafoil shaped form. The surface of this double skinned antique Chinese box is embellished with overlaid filigree mesh panels with plain solid silver borders to each incurve, in addition to the upper and lower rims. Each panel is ornamented with an applied oriental plum blossom branch accented with floral and bird designs, all accented with enamel details. The ornamentation to the body incorporates an array of alternating collet set agate and coral gemstones. This Chinese silver box retains the original push fit gem set, bulbous cover embellished with further filigree and enamel work identical to that of the body. The Chinese silver and enamel box cover is surmounted with an exceptional filigree ball style finial accented with a coral gemstone to the upper portion and featuring a flared lobed, filigree terminal. The cover opens to reveal the cylindrical chamber of the canister/box. The underside of the box is plain and unembellished apart from the hallmark’SILVER’. This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) locking box has a rectangular form. The surface of this antique box with lock is embellished with a chased decorated matte texture with a variety of embossed and chased decorated stemmed floral and foliate designs to the sides, including cherry blossom and iris arrangements. The upper surface of the cover is ornamented with an embossed and chased decorated scene depicting a grassy terrain surrounding a tree with fan shaped leaves by the side of a winding stream, with a traditional Chinese crane style bird design stagnant to one side and in flight to the other. The cover is further embellished with a central rectangular vacant cartouche. The decoration to the box is encompassed with a plain paralleling border; the border to the cover incorporates a simple incurved design to each corner. The underside of the box is plain and unembellished, apart from the Chinese character hallmarks. The box retains the original fitted fully working lock and key. This antique box with lock is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp. The character marks/hallmarks struck to the underside are all very clear. This silver cigarette / card case is fitted with a push fit catch, which when released reveals two hinged compartments. This Chinese silver cigarette case retains the original gilded interior. This fine antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigarette box has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. The surface of the body of the box is plain with an applied moulded border to the rim. The subtly domed hinged cover of the box is ornamented with the contemporary engraved monograph initials’CBK’ in addition to a moulded border to the rim. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this impressive box include. Maker’s mark: WH (Wang Hing & Company). Silver quality/purity mark: 90 (900/1000). The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the interior to provide strength, due to a poor gauge of silver; a sign of quality when examples are unlined and of solid silver.
