This cigarette box measures 4 1/8″ x 3 1/4″ x 2 (includes the raised dragons) and weighs a heavy 265 grams or 8.5 ozt. The box is lined with wood and opens smooth and closes snug as intended. Raised dragons are featured on the top and all four sides. The bottom is marked “ZEE SUNG SILVER” with a hallmark. It is monogramed in the circle on top… In my opinion this box is in excellent antique condition, but you be the judge by viewing the pictures closely. This fine antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigarette box has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. The surface of the body of the box is plain with an applied moulded border to the rim. The subtly domed hinged cover of the box is ornamented with the contemporary engraved monograph initials’CBK’ in addition to a moulded border to the rim. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this impressive box include. Maker’s mark: WH (Wang Hing & Company). Silver quality/purity mark: 90 (900/1000). The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the interior to provide strength, due to a poor gauge of silver; a sign of quality when examples are unlined and of solid silver. This antique cigarette box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition. The engraved initials have wear in keeping with age. Chinese Export Silver Cigarette Case – Antique Circa 1900. A fine and impressive antique Chinese Export Silver cigarette / card case; part of our diverse Asian silverware collection. This fine antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigarette/card case has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. The anterior cover is embellished with an embossed and chased decorated iconic Chinese dragon design amidst clouds, on a matte background, incorporating a shield shaped vacant cartouche. The posterior cover is ornamented with traditional embossed and chased plum blossom foliate and floral decoration, also on a matte background. The rounded sides of this antique silver cigarette case are plain and unembellished. This silver cigarette / card case is fitted with a push fit catch, which when released reveals two hinged compartments. This Chinese silver cigarette case retains the original gilded interior. The hallmarks struck to the catch of this impressive case include. Maker’s mark: Zee Wo. This antique case is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition. The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the interior of the catch are all very clear, however we are unable to produce an image due to the difficult placement of these hallmarks. A Chinese export silver cigarette box

A Chinese export silver cigarette box. Rectangular, the lid and sides engraved with dragons on a hammered ground within chamfered or plain borders, a plain oval reserve to the lid, cedar lined, no maker’s marks seen, retains old retailer’s labels. Weight – 298 Grams. In nice condition no damage some generalised wear with age and use to be expected but overall a nice. From what I can see this looks to be from the 1930s rather than a later piece from Hong Kong. It is a shame that there are no maker’s marks to confirm a more exact date or place of origin. The dragons are nicely detailed and this is always a popular motif with collectors. The weight will be deceptive as the cedar lining gives strength and body to the box meaning that the sheet silver covering it can be relatively thin. A nice looking piece all the same.
