VTG Large Chinese Porcelain Shard Box Jewelry Trinket Silver Tone Box 10 x 7

An extra large mid-century vintage Chinese porcelain shard box with an ornate silver frame and porcelain floral lid. This measures 10″L x 7″W x 3.5H which is a very large size for shard boxes. In good vintage condition with normal signs of wear, some superficial crazing on the porcelain as to be expected. Lid’s inside silver liner is a little warped as this was hand-made. No chips to the porcelain, normal patina to the silver frame.

Rare Chinese Qing Dy Paktong Hand Carved Pewter Export Lacquer Tea Caddy Box

Chinese Qing Dy c18th Century c1700’s Export Lacquer Tea Caddy Box Hand Carved Paktong Pewter Inserts with Hand Done Lotus Flower Design. Monogram on top lid of box(Can not make out). The 2 Paktong Pewter Containers pull completely out and have lids with knobs made of unknown material (bone). The bottom rim of box has slight wear conducive to age and use. This is a very old and period item and has slight wear due to age and use but is in EXCELLENT CONDITION! MEASURES: Box- 7 1/2″ x 6″ x 4″ – Inserts- 5″ x 3″ x 2 1/2″. PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE! This is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc, which resembles silver; it is slow to tarnish, wears well and was used occasionally in the eighteenth century for making candlesticks, fenders, grates and other articles. Paktong was imported into England from China, whence came also a pure zinc known as Tutenag. Writers often confused the two.

Antique Chinese silver snuff box, inlaid, crane and deer

A scarce and unusual antique Chinese silver and hardstone inlaid snuff box or stash pot. It was probably a commissioned piece gifted to someone or made in celebration of an event such as securing a good job etc. Chinese men often hid them in the sleeves of their Changpao. The lid is very well decorated with inlaid translucent hardstone with a deer and a crane by a river underneath a phoenix tree. There are a number of possible meanings that could be taken from the combination of images according to Chinese lore. Longevity, the six harmonies and togetherness are a few. The box is hallmarked on the underside with a Chinese hallmark and an image of golden horse, this is the mark of the Beijing retail and manufacturing silversmith Bao Hua Lou, previously just Bao Hua, late 19th century / early 20th century mark, information on the mark, maker and the symbolism very kindly provided by the world renowned Mr A V Ferscht, if you have not seen his comprehensive website or read his book then I highly recommend it. It is a very attractive and unique piece of Chinese silver. Good condition overall with some signs of use and wear commensurate with age, there is a small ding to the lid so it doesn’t quite close flush, see photos. Approx 1″ height, 1.25″ diameter and weighs approx 23.34 grams.

ANTIQUE CHINESE EXPORT SILVER WOOD LINED CIGAR OR JEWELRY BOX w MEDALLION 8.5

Measures approximately 8 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ x 3 high, with a medallion in the center of the lid and a variety of plants and flowers, including blossoms, pine boughs, chrysanthemums, and bamboo, with wood lining inside as you can see. There is some discoloration to the metal around the edges where the lid meets the bottom, and some scratches on the underside of the box from normal use, but otherwise is in very good condition. A very nice find! We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as “gifts” – US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Chinese Export silver box; an addition to our collection of boxes and cases. This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigarette box has a plain rectangular form. The surface of the body is encompassed with an applied, large undulating oriental Chinese dragon design, all in high relief. This antique silver box is fitted with a silver and cedar wood lined hinged cover. The upper plateau of the cover is ornamented with a further large coiling dragon design accented with impressive emanating whiskers, incorporating a circular vacant cartouche to the centre. The surface of the box and cover has a textured finish, with plain borders to each side. The body of this fine Chinese silver box retains the original cedar wood lining; by virtue of its size this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions. The box features a solid silver base which is plain and unembellished, apart from the feature hallmarks; a solid silver base is a sign of quality. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this fine box include. Silver quality/purity mark: 85 (85 standard, 850/1000). Maker’s mark: å¤§æ-°å. ¬å¸ (DA XIN GONG SI; The Sun Company Department Store Company). Workshop mark: é?’è¨~ (JIN JI, Shanghai). Such fine examples with three-dimensional whiskers and sharp applied decoration are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. NOTE: This small Shanghai workshop also crafted items for the Shanghai retailers Tuck Chang, Luen Woi and Nanking Store. The original cedar wood lining to the interior has some staining in keeping with age and use.
