Fine 19th Century Chinese Paktong Box with Silver Mount Engraved 2 Of 2

I have two 19th century Chinese Paktomg boxes with silver mounts fixed to top of lids that I will be listing separately. Absolutely stunning detail with silver mounts on the lids that I assume were likely from even earlier pieces and repurposed for these boxes. The silver work is particularly well done and the hand engraving charming.

Colors are still vibrant, appears to be a remnant of wax import seal or ownership on rear. Bottom is bronze, the upper is silver, not seen in this style very often a wonderful and rare piece..

Antique Chinese paktong tobacco box in three parts (2056)

Antique Chinese paktong tobacco box in three parts – (2056) Tobacco container which consists of three compartments. It looks like a Japanese’inro’ but is Chinese. The sides are finely engraved with auspicious scenes. An old scholar plays a musical instrument called’Qin’ and an official rides a horse. A similar container is depicted on page 383 of’The Chinese encounter with opium’ by K. Flow, who states that it is an opium box. This one dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Width 4.8 cm. Antique Chinese paktong ink box – (3030) Antique ink box made from’paktong’ also known as white brass. Paktong, sometimes called’beitong’, could be polished to look like silver but was much cheaper to produce. It was especially popular in the beginning of the 20th century. The cover of this small round box is engraved with a landscape scene. Ink boxes gave their owner the possibility to bring his ink (used for signatures and writing) along when he was going out. The box dates from the Republic Period (1912 – 1949). Diameter 4.9 cm. Height 2.3 cm. The difference, if any, will be reimbursed.
