The box has silver and gold gilt lacquer decoration on a black background with landscape scenes, the feet are carved like gilt bats or dragons. There is wear to the surface as well as some losses to the lacquer, the key doesn’t work. Condition: Some wear on the lacquer on the surface of the box. A few areas of loss/crazing to the lacquer. Large size 7cm across diameter. Good antique condition closes well. Threads unbroken age related crack visible from the inside which I have photographed. Some discolouration where I believe a cigarette may have been used as an ashtray one time. 1900’s Chinese Silver (tested silver with silver test kit) Sewing Box with Repousse Dragon Marked. The silver box (measured without the top) is 3.7 inches (9.5 cm) tall by 5 inches (14 cm) long and 3.25 inches (8.4 cm) wide. The silver is 185 gram. The box is 353.7 gram (0.8 Lb). It has damaged hinges and the silver is tarnished and has oxidation and surface wears and scratches. The fabric has tears, stains, and discoloration (as seen in the photos). Shaped as an egg with acanthus rising from base. Both base and hinged cover with all over royal chrysanthemum. Sprays in various stages of bloom set atop stippled surfaces.
