Chinese Qing Dy c18th Century c1700’s Export Lacquer Tea Caddy Box Hand Carved Paktong Pewter Inserts with Hand Done Lotus Flower Design. Monogram on top lid of box(Can not make out). The 2 Paktong Pewter Containers pull completely out and have lids with knobs made of unknown material (bone). The bottom rim of box has slight wear conducive to age and use. This is a very old and period item and has slight wear due to age and use but is in EXCELLENT CONDITION! MEASURES: Box- 7 1/2″ x 6″ x 4″ – Inserts- 5″ x 3″ x 2 1/2″. PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE! This is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc, which resembles silver; it is slow to tarnish, wears well and was used occasionally in the eighteenth century for making candlesticks, fenders, grates and other articles. Paktong was imported into England from China, whence came also a pure zinc known as Tutenag. Writers often confused the two.
