CHINESE SILVER GILDED & ENAMELED FIGURAL BIRD BOX. Old fine Chinese gilt silver enameled bird box. Likely a tea caddy. Beautiful work with filigree design to feathers. Bird has enameled wings and eyebrows. Exterior gilt over silver is light (like a wash); gilt over silver on interior is heavier and brighter. SIZE: Measures approximately 3 H x 5′ L x 2 7/8′ W. Total weight (which includes enamel) of 255.8 grams or about 8.225 ozt (troy ounces). MARKS: Marked’silver’ to bottom. CONDITION: Some small losses to the enamel work a small area in the middle of one eyebrow and at the high points of the eyeballs. The enamel work in the filigree wings looks very good, all in all, but please expect there surely will be some minor flaws. There may be a small loss to the filigree on two feathers were the lid and body meet. Likely has some wear to the exterior gilt finish. One tiny discoloration mark on interior gold finish. This listing is for a large Chinese silver covered box dating to the first half of the 20th century. The box is larger than most you will find standing 7.25 inches tall and weighing in at 510 grams. The exterior of the body is beautifully decorated with scenes of blossoming branches and birds done in colorful enamels. The interior is also finished with a rich gilt wash and is in very good condition with no damage. In addition, all questions must be asked at least 12 hours prior to a lot closing.
