Antique Chinese silver CES Snuff box – Book – (5612). A snuffbox was used to store pulverized tobacco which would be sniffed up to create a tickling sensation in the nose usually followed by a sneeze. This snuffbox dates from around 1900 and is shaped like a thick book. The interior is gilt and bears the initials’ABC’ which we have not yet been able to identify. According to CES-expert Alan Marlowe this mark is rare. Engraved on the cover of the box are lotus flowers (Continuous Harmony). Length 4.5 cm. Depth 1.3 cm. The difference will be reimbursed.
