Chinese Silver Dragon & Pearl Nutmeg Grater & Stand Circa 1880-90, Hallmarked
A VERY GOOD CHINESE NUTMEG GRATER. IT IS IN THE FORM OF THREE DRAGONS HOLDING A PEARL. THE THREE DRAGONS ARE BEAUTIFULLY MODELLED. THE LID TURNS OFF AND IS HELD IN PLACE BY SLOTTING INTO RECESSES IN THE BOTTOM PART. THE INNER GRILL IS SILVER FRAMED WITH A STEEL INNER GRATE, IT HAS TWO SLOTS WHICH LINE UP WITH THE RECESSES ABOVE TO ALLOW THE LID TO SLIP ON. IT HAS A CHINESE CHARACTER MARK HALLMARK TO THE BASE AND IT DATES TO CIRCA 1880. A VERY UNUSUAL PIECE. PLEASE SEE THE MANY PICTURES BELOW.
