RARE Signed Antique Chinese Export Sterling Silver Snuff/ Opium/ Pill Box ML

What an amazing repousse work! The box tells a story… It sways open, is leaf shaped, has designs on the top and sides and is signed underneath. It has a of couple of tiny dings in the back (please see photo) and there is a bit of a gap between the lid and the box due to age and use but can be flattened by a jeweler. This amazing treasure is 3-1/4″ long, 1-1/2″ at its widest point and 3/4 deep. Nitric acid scratch tested positive for sterling. Please, carefully view the photos as they are part of the description. 2 Figural Signed Chinese Export Silver Salt & Pepper Shakers Snuff Box Opium SL

Offered for your consideration is a signed pair of Chinese export small vessels. They are possibly salt and pepper shakers or meant for opium or snuff. The tops are removable. They consist of a lid and an interior screen. They date to the late 19th or early 20th century. The vessels are in overall good, as-pictured used estate condition with one top wire detached at one side. Otherwise, there is light edge wear, fine and light indentations and bends here and there, fine and light surface scratches and scuffing here and there, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Chinese Export silver box; an addition to our collection of boxes and cases. This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigarette box has a plain rectangular form. The surface of the body is encompassed with an applied, large undulating oriental Chinese dragon design, all in high relief. This antique silver box is fitted with a silver and cedar wood lined hinged cover. The upper plateau of the cover is ornamented with a further large coiling dragon design accented with impressive emanating whiskers, incorporating a circular vacant cartouche to the centre. The surface of the box and cover has a textured finish, with plain borders to each side. The body of this fine Chinese silver box retains the original cedar wood lining; by virtue of its size this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions. The box features a solid silver base which is plain and unembellished, apart from the feature hallmarks; a solid silver base is a sign of quality. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this fine box include. Silver quality/purity mark: 85 (85 standard, 850/1000). (DA XIN GONG SI; The Sun Company Department Store Company). Such fine examples with three-dimensional whiskers and sharp applied decoration are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Chinese Export Silver & Agate Topped Dragon Pill Box, Signed, 41.9g

Charming and dramatic monochromatic Chinese silver pill box with a banded black chamfered agate top inset into the lid. The main body of the box is oxidised silver, which highlights the intricate, low-relief decoration comprising scaly, lizard-like dragons in amongst stylised clouds, with the lid decorated with flower blossoms and foliage. The design is all repousse- hammered through from the interior- and has been created by a skilled craftsman managing to get so much detail into such a small space! The box is signed on the bottom, but the maker’s mark has not been been identified. The box is 3.5cms in diameter and 2.5cms in depth. Weight is 41.9g.
