Antique Victorian figural cicada sterling silver & enamel cricket cage or vinaigrette. Amazing detailed silverwork – incised, detailed, 2-sided designs on body. Translucent champleve enamels shimmer on the wings & head. Strung on a knotted necklace with amethyst & possible Chinese turquoise beads. The bail can slide down into the wings to release the body. (I cannot do this now because it is on the necklace – can only do if necklace is cut). Sterling cicada cricket cage measures 2 inches x 1 inch. Weighs 11 grams without the necklace. Necklace measures about 22 inches around with no clasp. There is some enamel loss on the cricket cage. Please view pictures for details & condition. Estate find – unknown exact age and origin. Chinese Silver Pierced Cricket Lock-Box Cherry Blossoms Birds Motif Circa 1930s. Of oval form, Chinese low grade silver pierced cricket lock-box circa 1930s, a good example of Chinese traditional pierced workmanship with Cherry blossoms & exotic birds design, set against spider net background, with running cherry blossoms and birds motif to box’s walls with opposite design to each side. The box accommodated with elaborate’C’ shape handle with rope style top design. The cover closes with diamond form clip. Overall very good condition, no dents nor damage to the pierced design, slight marking, scratches, hinge moves to the side due to minor bent to nail tube (still, the lid is secure and closes properly), net design atop of cover has one broken link. Marked: Chinese character mark, Item tested with 14k & 18k acid, 18k acid on the stone gives positive reaction, 14k acid gives neutral to negative reaction when applied directly to metal due to a higher concentration of other metals such as copper, zinc, brass. Antique Chinese Repousse Brass, Copper & Silver Incense or Cricket Box. Description: Unusual Antique/Vintage Chinese Repousse Brass, Copper & Silver Container, Early-Mid 20th C. Likely crafted as an incense or cricket box, the container of cylindrical form with tall sleeve-like cover mounted with repousse silver plaque in the form of two stylized butterflies on the flattened top; the sides with pierced copper band with openwork floral design flanked by repousse rope patterned bands; the bottom with tall cylindrical collar and spreading base with repousse petal border. The underside of the base stamped: “CHINA”. Dimensions: 4.125″ high x 3.375″ diameter (10.5cm x 8.5cm). Overall, the box is in good condition with appropriate signs of age.
