The box has a diameter of 3 inches and a height of 1.5 inches, making it perfect for small trinkets or jewelry. Its weight is 5.6 ounces and it is of unknown age, but it is an original piece from China with a maker identified as Chinese. An uncommon boxed set of six Chinese Export sterling silver and jade spoons. The reverse of each is marked with the makers mark “LYH” for Lee Yee Hing as well as “Sterling” and “Hong Kong”. I would date them to c1930’s or 40’s. They are a handsome Art Deco design with bamboo stems and bezel terminals that have been set green jade cabochons (color does not show up in the photos, I’ll try and add some better images). They are in super condition being free from dings splits chips cracks and repairs and they are in their original silk lined presentation box with a glass lid. They each measure approx.
Offering this beautiful antique stamped metal over wood tea caddy. The metal exterior has a waterlily design. The interior and bottom are lined in golden yellow velvet. Most likely Chinese, though there are no marks that I could find. There is age-related wear to the finish on the metal (showing a brassy color under the silver gilt) and to the velvet lining, and it appears the lid is missing a couple tacks on top and possibly a clasp on the front, but it’s otherwise complete, functional, and displays very well. Measures about 10 1/2″ x 6″ x 6.

Antique silver Betal nut box/Chelpa tobacco box. Originally this box would have been used to store betel nuts. Originating from the Lower Perak in Malaysia, the box dates to the 19th century. The lid of the box is covered with. Spiralling leaves and flowers, on the body of the box there are further chased decorative panels. This was a popular technique among Chinese Straits. There is a large ring attached. This would have been used to thread a chain through which would have been attached to clothing. This way, one could easily transport the betel nuts without having to carry them around in hands or pockets. Betel chewing became widespread across South East Asia and there was a great deal of paraphernalia attached to the habit with containers of various, sizes and shapes and special tools to cut the betel nuts. The containers were made of different materials, wood, lacquer and various metals, according to income and social standing.
