Chinese Export Silver Card Case – Antique Circa 1890. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Chinese Export Silver card case; part of our diverse Asian silverware collection. This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) card case has a rectangular shaped form. The anterior surface of this Wang Hing card case is ornamented with an impressive chased decorated iconic Chinese dragon design accented with stylised cloud decoration, all on a matte background. The ornamentation incorporates a vacant shield shaped cartouche. The posterior surface of this antique card case is embellished with impressive bamboo stalk designs, also all on a matte background. The sides of this antique silver case are ornamented with a simplified stemmed floral design. This Chinese card case is fitted with a push fit cover ornamented with a continuation of the aforementioned chased decoration. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this fine silver case include. Maker’s mark: WH (Wang Hing). Silver quality/purity mark: 90 (90 standard, 900/1000). This exceptional example of Chinese silverware is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. Antique Chinese silver CES Snuff box – Book – (5612). A snuffbox was used to store pulverized tobacco which would be sniffed up to create a tickling sensation in the nose usually followed by a sneeze. This snuffbox dates from around 1900 and is shaped like a thick book. The interior is gilt and bears the initials’ABC’ which we have not yet been able to identify. According to CES-expert Alan Marlowe this mark is rare. Engraved on the cover of the box are lotus flowers (Continuous Harmony). Length 4.5 cm. Depth 1.3 cm. The difference will be reimbursed. Antique Chinese Mother of Pearl and Silver Snuff Box. Circa 1800 Georgian, Qing Canton style from research of like boxes. Beautiful, detailed, exquisitely made rectangular snuff box with angled corners. Top piece of mother of pearl is monogrammed with what appears to be an S. Fair to good overall used, antique condition. Lid has a small surface hairline crack that may be seen in photo, but it does not go through the piece. It may be seen at the 7 o’clock position on the center circle going toward the upper right. Again, this is surface only and it does not permeate the lid. This is truly a gem. Edges are silver – tarnished patina. Carefully crafted with tiny pieces of metal silver? Measures 2 5/8″ x 1 5/8″ x 7/8. Antique Chinese Opium Box #214

Offered for sale is an antique Chinese opium box (number 214). The outside of the box appears to be made of silver. But the material could be paktong, which resembles silver (Paktong is an alloy of zinc, copper and nickel, closely resembling silver). The inside of the box is made of copper. The box was used to carry opium. Opium smoking in China began in the early 18th century and it flourished for the next 200 years. This box is most probably from the end of the 19th century.
