CHINESE EXPORT SILVER CIGARETTE CASE c1890 KWAN WO – RARE FOLDING DESIGN. A fine and very rare late 19th century Chinese export silver folding open cigarette case. From the well listed Kwan Wo. The cover with hand carved scenes of Chinese figures in daily life activities. Elder with attendant, mother watches as children play, figures in shop window. Watch as patron enters, amidst lush foliage stippled background. Opposite side with classic bamboo grove. The design is unique. Both the cover and base are hinged! This allows for completely opening – flat – to allow easy placement of cigarettes. We have never seen this design in Chinese export silver. Retains both original interior bands. Loss to much facial detail as shown. The Chinese export silver folding open cigarette case is 3 1/4 inches. And weighs 2 3/4 standard ounces.
