Chinese Export Silver & Jade Box c1890 Wang Hing ONE OF A KIND
CHINESE EXPORT SILVER & JADE BOX c1890 WANG HING “CUSTOM ORDER”. WE WILL BE OFFERING THE SAME FINE ANTIQUE SILVER, DECORATIVE ARTS, QUALITY SERVICE AND 40 YEARS OF EXPERTISE. This is a late 19th century, one of a kind, hand crafted Chinese export silver and jade scholar’s box. Signed for Wang Hing. Imported by Bensabott Shop, in Chicago at turn of the century. Custom fitted jade scholar’s plaque, butterfly wings and standing elephant feet. We found a few similar works by the shop using American silver boxes with coral and even carnelian accents, but never jade. And never with a Chinese export silver box such as this. The cover with butterflies amidst royal chrysanthemum. Set on fine hand hammered surface. Framing a hand carved, shaded spinach green jade scholar’s panel. The front and sides continuation of the floral. The Bensabott’s silversmiths engraved a butterfly body with applied tail and spread wings made of jade. Finished perfectly with jade elephant feet. Interior cover gold wash, interior base thin wood panel. And also stamped for the retailer Bensabott Shop. In very fine condition. Rich silver patina, original detail. The right upper corner silver frame was folded inward to secure the plaque. As shown, likely at time of the manufacture. This custom ordered Chinese silver and jade desk box. Is 6 inches long and weighs 17 standard ounces. Less the jade and interior panel. The item “Chinese Export Silver & Jade Box c1890 Wang Hing ONE OF A KIND” is in sale since Monday, July 9, 2018.
