This is for a very nice little Georgian antique sterling silver gaming counter box with 6 early mother of pearl counters inside. The box and counters are oval in shape and the lid of the box has a simple shield with brightcut pattern around. The six pearl counters all show a flower engraved in the centre and a hatched border, this is the same on both sides and the border helps to confirm these as from the same era as the box, this style of simple bordered flower counters started production around 1740. The box carries a full set of clear English sterling silver hallmarks dating it to Birmingham 1798 along with the makers initials IT for John Turner. The box and the counters are in excellent condition with no dents to the silver and no cracks in the pearl. The box measures 35mm (1.25″) by 23mm (1″) by 10mm deep.
