This is an antique Chinese Export carved sandalwood calling card case. Both sides are carved with scenes of people, buildings, a bridge, and various flora and fauna. It measures 3 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches. There is a small pencil inscription on the inner edge which I believe is the name “Hamish”. They had no children and Mrs. McCray was a collector of American furniture, fans, calling card cases, and Chinese export items. Most of her collecting was done from the 1930s through the 1950s. The fans and card cases were left to her niece and they have been in storage since then. The range is wonderful with European, American, and Chinese examples with no two alike. There are approximately 55 fans and 85 card cases, so it will take some time to sell them all. I will be listing then over the next few months, so please bookmark me.
