UNUSUAL VICTORIAN CARVED CHINESE DRAGON LETTER OPENER AND SCABBARD. This is a Beautiful very Unusual Victorian Chinese Dragon Carved Letter Opener and Scabbard , this stunning letter opener dates to circa 1890 making it over 100 years old, the detailing is superb, you will see the handle is crafted in a wood with and has a slightly curved metal body for opening the letter, this has a very delicate pattern to the edging of the opener as you can see from my last photo almost a scallop shape, this then has its wonderful matching slightly curved wooden scabbard that fits perfectly, once they are back together you will see the most beautiful carved and painted dragon running up from the scabbard to the handle in blues, reds and cream colours, the detailing is beautiful, to the top and bottom of this stunning letter opener you will see it is finished with a wonderful ivory colour roundal, this still also retains its tassles to the top of the handle in a gold colour braid, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, it is so very tactile with its smooth finish , this would have been used many years ago when letters were sent daily. This will add something very special to any collection, its in lovely condition, just a little flaking to the paint in places.
