Offered for your consideration is a signed pair of Chinese export small vessels. They are possibly salt and pepper shakers or meant for opium or snuff. The tops are removable. They consist of a lid and an interior screen. They date to the late 19th or early 20th century. The vessels are in overall good, as-pictured used estate condition with one top wire detached at one side. Otherwise, there is light edge wear, fine and light indentations and bends here and there, fine and light surface scratches and scuffing here and there, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. This is a Unique Georgian Chinese Export Faux Tortoiseshell Dragon Snuff Box, i believe was crafted c1800 making it around 223 years old. This is a Beautiful Chinese Export Faux Tortoiseshell Snuff Box with a Dragon on the Lid, The Dragon is Beautifully Gilt Etched onto the Lid, and the detail of the Dragon is amazing and covers the whole Lid. The Colours of the Faux Tortoiseshell on the Lid are Stunning, with Darker Cloud like Patterns and a Light almost see through effect to the Faux Tortoiseshell. The Base of this Snuff Box is a Dark Faux Tortoiseshell and the Lid fits nicely to the Base, this is a very Unique Faux Tortoisehell Dragon Snuff Box and was made in a time very different to today. This would have been owned by a Wealthy Georgian Gentleman and it is very Tactile and would add something special to any collection. This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) locking box has a rectangular form. The surface of this antique box with lock is embellished with a chased decorated matte texture with a variety of embossed and chased decorated stemmed floral and foliate designs to the sides, including cherry blossom and iris arrangements. The upper surface of the cover is ornamented with an embossed and chased decorated scene depicting a grassy terrain surrounding a tree with fan shaped leaves by the side of a winding stream, with a traditional Chinese crane style bird design stagnant to one side and in flight to the other. The cover is further embellished with a central rectangular vacant cartouche. The decoration to the box is encompassed with a plain paralleling border; the border to the cover incorporates a simple incurved design to each corner. The underside of the box is plain and unembellished, apart from the Chinese character hallmarks. The box retains the original fitted fully working lock and key. This Chinese box was crafted by Heng Li, a silversmith considered to have been one of the finest of the Tientsin makers; Tientsin had one of the oldest traditions of silver making in China. This antique box with lock is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp. The character marks/hallmarks struck to the underside are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Chinese Export silverware. 23.2 troy ounces/722g (including locking mechanism).
