This silver repousse and chased Chinese silver box is a mid to late 19th century Qing example. The thinness of the silver and manner of decoration appear to be consistent with the date above. The decorations are very consistent with the examples made for export purposes by showing classic Chinese landscape scenes and the central picture of the boy riding the ox. An image made very popular during the Kangxi period onward. Further use of a pagoda, bridge and numerous pine trees and panels of domestic scenes inform westerners of life in China. There are no marks on the box, however marks were not always used. Age: Mid to Late 19th Century Qing Dynasty.. 3.25″ X 1.5″, 5.82 ounces.
