Silver products, and some gold as well, may exhibit milk spots, and/or toning, which are normal and do not change the condition described in the listing, nor the value of the product. However, at times, coins do tend to develop spotting or toning which are a normal happenstance in coins. In instances where there is a discrepancy where the customer believes to be unjust, please refer to the grading companys guarantee policy. Both NGC and PCGS have a program where they will compensate the owner of the current coin if they believe the coin deserves a lower grade than it had originally received. Khmer Silver Elephant Betelnut Box A two-part silver box in the traditional Khmer motif of a Elephant , it is covered with swirling lines. With a weight of 340 grams, this box is relatively large compared with other such boxes in the genre of handmade Khmer silver pieces found in the shapes of myriad Elephent and animals. The boxes were used to hold the leaves and other ingredients necessary to assemble a quid of betel, a mild stimulant used for centuries throughout Southeast Asia. While such silver pieces are difficult to date, this one, judging by design and detail, was made in the early 20th century. Every surface, even the bottoms of the feet, is detailed, with exceptional attention to the head, where more than a dozen patterns of lines combine with crisp shapes to form the Elephants lively expression. Because such silver boxes were highly valued by their owners, they were carefully handled and typically remain in good condition. This one is in quite good condition, with no dents. The box is not marked T90. Silver plated Measures 51/2″ tall X 7″ long Rare to find this large size….. ART – TRIBAL – GALLERY. Khmer Silver Elephant Betelnut Box.
