Very Unusual antique Chinese pewter divided sweet meat serving piece, complete with five removable individual compartments and corresponding lids, four dipping sauce trays and four dipping sauce tray holders that attach to the server. Pewter is beautifully engraved with florals, birds, and Chinese characters, with brass trim and handle accents. Server is 4 leaf clover shape. Top outer lid pull is plum shaped, with inset cabauchon stone, possibly carnelian. Interior lid pulls are highly unusual with same stones as cover. Inside are five individual, removable, compartments. The center compartment stores four small pewter dipping trays and their holders that attach to the base piece. The base holds very hot water to keep the food warm. Beautiful attention to detail, heavy and well made. Lid and base are marked. This piece appears to have been made in Beijing, between 1916 and 1940. Please examine photos carefully. Measures: approximately 18 wide (with dipping trays attached). Weight is approximately 15 lbs. Item is in original unaltered condition, but is in overall good condition for its age, base and pieces have no dents, cracks, or repairs. A bit of an indentation on top possible intended or a dent? , the small dishes in center have a bent of denting at bottom- but again I think they may have come that way originally? . The stones are all great except one on the cover does have a bit of a chip/ small black mark- again perhaps it came that way? Thanks for looking and glad to hear ideas from anyone with knowledge.
