Antique box / cigar box. Made by Wang Hing (retailer) Canton and Hong Kong late 19th – early 20th century. Measurements: 4 1/4 inches (10.75cm) long; 3 inches (7.5cm) wide. Rectangular box that was most likely used as a cigar or cigarette box. Currently, no wood lining. The entire upper surface and 4 sides are richly decorated with raised scenes of dragons amidst scrolling clouds and bamboo in rocky landscapes. The decoration is rich and typical of Wang Hing, who we believe was the biggest retailer of Chinese silver from the last quarter of the 19th century. Marks: the bottom of the box is marked 90 and WH. Condition: generally good with minor wear commensurate with age. Very close inspection shows a tiny ding on the upper left corner – mentioned for the sake of total accuracy.
