Antique 19th Century rare Chinese Solid Silver large decorative box, of rectangular form, decorated in repousse’ high relief, on very finely tooled matted ground, depicting various figures in a landscape and amongst palaces. The box is particularly large, heavy and very well crafted, by one of the most rare and outstanding silversmiths at the time. Bao Cheng was known to be one of the oldest of the group of Tianjin merchants known as the eight great families [ba ja jia].
