Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty silver over copper enamel trinket box with mirror inside. This box looks as precious as the things it might have held. Large and sturdy, 3 x 2/12 x 1, it is lovely and elegant due to the enamel and its scalloped edges. The top portrays a bat, symbol of good fortune, of burnt orange with indigo blue antennae and fanciful wings of silver, decorated with flowers. The sides are covered with individual symbols. On the bottom is an original sticker saying “made in China” and the word “China” embedded in the copper. This box is among a group of pieces representing the finest Chinese silver work from the Qing Dynasty. When the Communists came in, all jewelry and artifacts were confiscated from the citizenry by the government and stored in warehouses. This price is less than my cost.
