A piece of Japanese History on this small silver box made by one of the finest silver smiths and watch makers of the time. In 1934 Emperor Pu Yi of Manchukuo in order to express his gratitude to the Japanese Emperor sent. Zheng Xiaoxu and Zhu Qia as special envoys to Japan. I think two boxes were made by the Japanese side as presents. (This is one of the two). A rare conversation piece and museum quality fine addition to any collection as seen. Please view photos as they are part of the actual description. To the appointed special envoys. Minister of State Zheng Xiaoxu. Minister of Finance Zhu Qia. ? Pure Silver Made by Hattori. The box was done by a skilled hand. It has repousse and hand chasing. Measures 4 1/2″ tall x 3 5/8″ wide x 2 1/4A deep and weighs 159.4 grams. It is in beautiful condition. There is an old note inside that states it was given by the Meiji Emperor at a banquet celebrating his silver anniversary in 1895. This is just a note so whether it bears any truth I really do not know. It does appear to have the Meiji seal incorporated in the decoration which is the Chrysanthemum. Fresh out of a recent old estate. The item “Fine Antique Chinese Sterling Silver Bat Buddha Hand Box Japanese Emperor Meiji” is in sale since Monday, January 30, 2017.
