1890 FINE BOX Tea Caddy Canister MOTHER of PEARL LID CANTON 239 gr. Gorgeous Chinese Export estate find. 8 different elaborate panels – perhaps. Chinese zodiac – interpretation would be very welcomed. High relief repousse highly ornate Chinese motifs. Believe to be of Canton origin. Centred in the silver flip lid cover is master crafted artistry of beautiful Mother of Pearl etched with butterflies fluttering in amongst flowers in a garden / framing the MOP is scroll silver work. The caddy itself consists of eight different curved ornately chased panels. Fish or perhaps, a turtle with lotus flower. Flowers / chrysanthemums. Top & bottom edges are elaborately finished in curls & scrolls. Lovely condition free of crack or dents – beautiful patina. Bottom marked / signed in Chinese as shown in photo. CHINESE EXPORT SILVER BOX; ROYAL CHRYSANTHEMUM ON 1000 BUTTERFLY WINGS; SIGNED; EXCELLENT CONDITION. This is a museum worthy Chinese export silver scholars box. Signed for rare maker WF. They are not Chinese. Not solid silver, but plate or nickel silver. And certainly not export period. Many no older than your couch or TV. This export silver box in rectangular form. Center oval shield, never monogrammed. Beautifully raised royal chrysanthemum. Flowers carved in exceptional relief. Set against unique 1000 butterfly wing surface. This surface found on Meiji Satsuma wares, almost never on Chinese silver. Chinese export silver floral box just under 6 inches and 12 1/2 standard ounces. Lustreous silver patina throughout. Beautiful floral decoration retains its original crisp, hand chased detail. Original gold wash interior. Mild surface wear to interior base. We have over 8800 feed backs.
