Antique Chinese Export Silver lancet case / Surgical Box for a medical practioner. Looks like a vesta or match safe, but made and fitted to hold a pair of lancets – used medically by doctors in the field 1-200 years ago as well as non-medical practioners of bleeding. Measures 2 1/2 X 1 1/2 inches 62 X 36mm. Rectangular case / box. Outside richly decorated with repousse Chinese figures performing various activities in a beautiful landscape. One side includes a pagoda with a number of patterns on it’s surface. Twisted and gnarled trees. The sides with matching decoration of raised foliage and flowers. Like many steel lancets of the time, they are encased in a’natural material’ – original to the piece. No hallmarks / identifying marks were found. No losses/damage of any sort were found.
