The box was done by a skilled hand. It has repousse and hand chasing. Measures 4 1/2″ tall x 3 5/8″ wide x 2 1/4A deep and weighs 159.4 grams. It is in beautiful condition. There is an old note inside that states it was given by the Meiji Emperor at a banquet celebrating his silver anniversary in 1895. This is just a note so whether it bears any truth I really do not know. It does appear to have the Meiji seal incorporated in the decoration which is the Chrysanthemum.
