The case is decorated with repousse detail in high relief depicting a Carp Fish leaping the Dragon’s Gate. Exceptionally fine detail with the Dragon appearing to be forcing it’s way through the case. In Chinese mythology, the Dragon’s gate is located at the top of a waterfall cascading from a legendary mountain. If a carp is strong and brave enough to swim against the river’s strong current and successfully makes the. Final leap over the waterfall, it is transformed into a powerful Dragon. The Chinese dragon’s large scales indicate it’s origin from a carp. Gilded on the inside, the case is in excellent condition with a perfect spring hinge and securing clasp.
