Antigue Silver Filigree Money Box probably from the late 19th century
Fine Silver Antique Filigree box on tray, from the late 19th century from Karmnagar, India, or Dutch East Indies. It is hinged and the hinge is a little damaged but still opens & closes. All sides are intricate silver filigree except for the bottom of the box. The oval tray is 6 inches across and 3 1/2 inches wide and the box sits in the middle. I inherited this along with 13 other pieces when I was in Lahore, Pakistan in 1977 visiting my then in-laws. They belonged to the parents of my then husband who were then deceased and had migrated many years earlier from India. It is hard to determine the age of such a beautiful piece of art, but an expert in antique silver filigree thinks it was from the late 19th century. A very rare piece.
