Pair of Chinese Gilt Silver & Enamel Foo Dogs – Original Republic Era Box – Mint. Very fine pair of antique Chinese gilt sterling silver filagree and enamel Foo Dog or Lion Guardian figures in their original fitted box. Marked (stamped) “SILVER” on one front foot of each figure. They are heavy for their size. Republic period or shortly after. Circa 1940 -1960’s. Finely crafted, beautifully sculpted, enameled, and finished. This pair is still in it’s original Chinese-made fitted wood box which features a silk lining, woven silk brocade exterior and bone closures. The original price tag is still in place on the bottom of the box. The silver enameled sculptures are in beautiful mint condition with no wear to the gold surface and therefore no tarnish to the silver under the gold. The enamel in undamaged and in original mint condition as well. This pair appears to have been stored in their box and never displayed or worn. LENGTH : 4 (10 cm). HEIGHT : 2 1/2 (6.5 cm). WEIGHT (respectively, without box) : 4.5 oz. & 4.1 oz. TOTAL WEIGHT (the pair, without box) : 8.6 ounces. WEIGHT (including box) : 1 lb. CONDITION : Near mint condition. Box in good condition with very light wear. See above for condition.
